Una Karabeg has been a scholarship holder of the Hastor Foundation for two years, and with her socially responsible work on various projects, assistance, and work in the editorial office, she has proven many times that her responsibility, perseverance and undoubted ambition will lead her to success. She achieved one such success at the Global Management business competition organized as part of a summer school in the Netherlands.

As a Senior Scholar and FLS’21 event coordinator at the Bosnia & Herzegovina Futures Foundation (BHFF), she and two other BHFF colleagues were given the opportunity to represent our country at a summer school organized in Utrecht, the Netherlands.

I am extremely grateful for the opportunity given to me, bearing in mind that entrepreneurship, management and marketing are very challenging areas of the economy when we look at the bigger picture. Learning from practitioners who have global experience in these areas is truly remarkable and I want to thank once again the Bosnia & Herzegovina Futures Foundation for recognizing me as a person who deserves this kind of training.

The summer school lasted from August 9 to 13, 2021, and as a part of it, Una attended the course “Global Management: Strategic Marketing, Management and Finance” at HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht – Business and Management. The quality of the course, Una points out, in addition to the extraordinary experience it offers, is reflected in the fact that it is worth 2 ECTS credits.

The course consisted of theoretical and practical components with an emphasis on the planning, implementation and evaluation of an international brand marketing strategy in a realistic simulated environment. Lecturer Mr. Bart Toering motivated the students, giving them opportunities to evaluate case studies and, accordingly, to suggest ways to advance international companies in a modernized world.

In addition to participants from our country, multiculturalism was also contributed by participants from Brazil, Greece, Nigeria, UAE, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Sierra Leone, India, Pakistan and the Philippines. Una is with her team originally from Greece, Nigeria and the UAE with the idea of “EzCase” – a solution of an innovative practical mask for mobile phones for women with a primary focus on the Western Balkans market.

I believe that the victory is the result of several factors – a well-coordinated and responsible team, a simple and feasible idea, but also our experience. At my university, Sarajevo School of Science and Technology, where I study economics and international business, I really learned a lot – the combination of knowledge and love for what you do always leads to results.

She points out that she finds motivation in opportunities and challenges, and through her example she wants to show young people that on the way to success it is important to follow your heart and constantly work on yourself. She adds that it is crucial for every young person to have a goal in life. She is currently the president of the Entrepreneurship Club at SSST University, and she tells the following to her readers:

There are no boundaries on the path to success – be yourself, and do not see challenges as problems but as unique opportunities for personal, private and professional growth and development. There is no perfect story and simple recipe for success. Don’t forget that success is only a reward for your efforts and hard work so far, but not the final step – we can always do better, and we should strive for that.

Una’s success story has been reported by numerous BiH portals, and we are proud that such young people are part of the proactive team of the Hastor Foundation.
