An important choice in our lives is finding a hobby which will take over our free time. If a hobby is chosen in accordance with our talent, it can become our primary occupation. Our scholarship holder Aida Suljić is a prime example of how dedication to our hobbies can help us achieve noticeable results. She only writes success with her pen.
Aida is an eighteen-year old from Kalesija. She graduated from her primary school with excellent grades and currently she is a third-year student attending the Mixed high school in Kalesija (economy technician). During her time in seventh grade she became a part of the Hastor Foundation and now she feels that her life positively changed in a few years.
She began writing during the early days of 2019, which means that she is at the beginning of a journey on which she will progress and arrive at the goal which she planned in her thoughts. In elementary school she did not show any affinity towards writing. However, after being attracted to a topic of a literary competition and after she tried writing seriously for the first time, she turned her attention to the world of pen and paper. Today, she is proud on all the acknowledgements that she received in the two bygone years. While some of the literary competitions brought her accolades that motivated her to stay on her path, other competitions awarded her with a place in the collection of works. On the contest “Droga je najveće zlo” she won first place, while on the contest “Nisi sam/a” organised by the association “Mladi Tuzle” in partnership with the Youth theatre of Tuzla, she won second place. There were other competitions in her school and municipality on which she achieved similar results. On the contest “Bajramske priče” in the high school category, her work was chosen among the best 32 and was placed in the work collection. In Sarajevo the “Ja biram” contest was held and Aida’s work was once again placed in the collection.
The biggest challenge which Aida fought was the lack of support from her closest. After the contest where she won first place and brought the diploma home, her parents realised that Aida seriously desires to walk on the writer’s path.
With the numerous acknowledgements born from her love towards writing, Aida distinguished herself as a competitor that is closely linked to her future profession. Recently, she competed on a Cantonal competition “Preduzeće za vježbu”, where she won first place. On the Economic Olympiad she managed to pass on the regional-level contest. Next to all that we mentioned, Aida exclaims that she is especially happy for volunteering meetings and she points out :
Among the numerous obligations, every month the time for volunteering meetings comes where I shortly forget on all my worries. Thanks to the Hastor Foundation, I learned many things. I am a quiet and shy person, so I do not like to hang out with others for a long time, but to my surprise, every new meeting brought me a new friend. The volunteers were always there for us and thanks to them, I realised the importance of the Foundation in my life. I believe I will never find the words which will allow me to successfully express my gratitude, but I try to do that with the results that I achieve.
In the end, I would like to say something to all the scholarship holders. Regardless of what awaits you tomorrow, do what you desire today. Do not think on the consequences, that which may or may not happen, think about yourself, on your happiness and do that which you love. Do not hesitate to try something new and different. Relax, since no one knows what will come out of it.
I believe that one day we will hold the fruits of Aida’s effort in our hands and that she will always make us proud.
