Each success in any field of life requires effort, sacrifice, and hard work. Achieving those successes isn’t easy, but the discipline that is characteristic of scholarship holders always brings results that are worthy of pointing out. This time, hard work and true values will be portrayed through the story of Nejla Graho.
Nejla is 20 years old, and she comes from Gorani – a place near Konjic. She is a second-year student at the Faculty of Education at the Džemal Bijedić University of Mostar, where she is studying at the Department of Sports and Health. Nejla being a very responsible student can be proven by the fact that she achieved a 10.0 GPA in the first year of her college studies. Achieving a GPA so high was the reason why she received the Dean´s Award for being the best student at the Faculty of Education. The activities of the Foundation’s scholarship holders aren’t limited only to their faculty-related commitments (which are dealt with responsibly). The scholarship holders also practice social activism, which they enjoy doing, and which helps them develop into successful young people. Helping the community and being a role model for the young can be regarded as leitmotifs of the Hastor Foundation’s scholarship holders. Nejla is one such scholarship holder, because she, besides studying at the faculty, trains karate and in 2020, she became the state senior champion at a karate championship. She also had a chance to compete as a member of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s national team at the Balkan Championship.
Aside from her faculty-related commitments, sports activities, and training sessions, Nejla puts her energy into volunteering at the Center for Psychological Development “Sensus”. Her story didn’t end there, but it rather took her to a five-kilometer race in Jablanica, where Nejla participated and, subsequently, finished second. Nothing is impossible for Nejla; she successfully overcomes all obstacles. Nejla tries to adjust all of her extracurricular activities so that they can be combined with the ones related to her studies. By setting priorities and by enjoying what she currently does, Nejla aims to devote her time to doing things that will help her make progress. Of course, she sees the Hastor Foundation as a source of support, and she said the following:
I am led by a saying that determination makes the difference between what is possible and what isn’t. I draw my everyday motivation from a variety of sources: my family, friends, professors, and the Hastor Foundation. Receiving great support, as well as being rewarded for effort and ambition are things that every person hopes for; and all of this is what the Hastor Foundation has been selflessly providing me with for 8 years now.
The Foundation always stands with its scholarship holders who are true proof that education really is the winners’ choice.
