Love towards reading is commonly linked to good writing and excellent results in language-based competition results. The Hastor Foundation scholarship holder Ajla Saiti manifests her love towards reading through very good results in Serbian language competitions.
Ajla is a sixteen-year-old scholarship holder from Gradiška. She completed the second grade in the Technical high school. She describes herself as a very cheerful girl who loves animals and enjoys spending her free time with books and pets.
Since childhood, Ajla has expressed her love for books and reading. In her primary school, she attended many literary competitions and won numerous rewards and she continued to do the same in high school. She is especially proud of winning third place in an essay writing competition, on the topic of the new Ferhadija mosque in Banja Luka. She received a monetary prize, as well as some very valuable books. Currently, Ajla is on a path to becoming a distinguished author. Apart from reading and writing, she loves to sing and do stage plays.
Ajla received third place at the recent school and municipal competitions in Serbian language, held at her high school.
I was overjoyed when my Serb language professor Svjetlana Vidović informed me that I won third place. As a reward, she gave me a book titled “Moonlight” from Pjera la Mira. Her smile made me happier than the reward.
Ajla claims that the Hastor Foundation helped her during the most difficult moments of education. She finds the volunteering activities in the Foundation very helpful and interesting. She also points out that she befriended many new people.
I love to do research about new topics and the exercises that I receive from my mentors help me increase my knowledge and share it with the rest of the group.
Ajla’s favourite genres in literature are detective stories and thrillers, but also romantic novels. Moreover, she also reads manga.
The message that I would share with my fellow scholarship holders is that they have to fight for their own goals and that they should not give up when they make mistakes, since mistakes make us stronger.
In the end, Ajla wants to share a wonderful quote which she learned from her teacher Svjetlana and it states: “Knowledge is power and no one can take it away from us!”.
