Today’s society, based on information and technology, requires individuals who can think critically about complex topics, interpret available information, adapt to new situations, analyze their own possibilities, make informed decisions in everyday life, solve various problems and effectively apply technology and transfer ideas and thoughts.
Because mathematics studies quantitative relationships, structure, shapes and space, regularities and laws, it predicts randomness and analyzes random phenomena, observes and describes changes in different contexts, and provides precise symbolic language and a system for describing, representing, analyzing, examining, interpreting, and communicating idea, mathematics education enables students to acquire the knowledge, skills, processes and ways of thinking that are necessary for successful and useful participation in such a society. It is really indisputable that the scholarship holder Maja Bojanić will be an active and productive participant in that same society. She comes from Derventa and is a second grade student at the High School Center “Mihajlo Pupin” in the computer science department. Having won second place in the school competition in mathematics, she placed in the regional competition, which was held online this year due to the epidemiological situation.
All the competitors solved the tasks in their schools, which was a new experience for me. This year, I missed the friends I met in previous years at the competition, but this type of competition was the best for all of us in this situation.
She won third place, and points out that she owes great gratitude to the teacher and a classmate who also competed because they helped her during the preparations. She believes that collegiality is more important than the placement itself because they go through these preparations together, exchange experiences and provide support to each other.
Through all these years of competition, our friendship has strengthened and at no time do we represent each other’s competition.
In addition to being an excellent student throughout elementary school, and even now in high school, in previous years she participated in school and regional competitions in mathematics and physics and had excellent results. She also shows an interest in writing, as evidenced by the previously won first place in the competition for the selection of the best literary works on the topic “There is only one mother.” In her free time, she likes to read, and she is also a member of the drama section in High school.
After high school, she plans to enroll in college: Since I’m a fan of math, my desire was to be a math teacher until I enrolled in this major in high school. This year I got a professional subject called Programming, which I really liked. I’m still not sure what college it will be, but I have plenty of time to think and decide. For the second year in a row, she has been a scholarship holder of the Hastor Foundation, which, as she points out, is a great support in her education because she notices that the Foundation highly values effort, work and commitment. She especially likes volunteer meetings as one of the specifics of the Foundation:
At each meeting I learn something new, we exchange opinions and we all participate.
We want our Maja to continue her success in the field of mathematics, informatics and volunteer work!
