Ena Razić is a second-grade mathematics and IT student at the Second Gymnasium in Mostar. She became a scholarship holder of the Foundation when she was in the ninth grade, and has been a part of this family for three years.

She plans to continue her academic education in the field of natural sciences – mathematics and physics. However, she points out that she will use the upcoming two years of high school education to discover specific areas within these sciences that she wants to study. This year, she achieved 2nd place in the school competition and 4th place in the cantonal competition in mathematics.

Like many other high school students, Ena enjoys reading books and watching movies in her spare time.

High school students typically say that we read books or watch movies in our free time, but it is really the truth. Although I am primarily interested in math, I definitely like to read a good book, most often in English or German because these are the languages I am trying to perfect.

However, in addition to the education sector, which is a significant part of her life, she also emphasizes the importance of volunteering. She is a member of many local volunteer groups and associations, but she especially singles out the Association of High School Students in Bosnia and Herzegovina (ASuBiH). One of Ena’s favorite achievements in this field is certainly her participation in the Youth Forum 2020 in Austria within the UNODC organization (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime).

I think volunteering is a really great thing where we can progress a lot in character, and one of my desires is to start an organization that will work with elementary and high school students to solve problems at the local level.

She says her love of math showed up in the sixth grade of primary school when that interest still seemed temporary to her. However, only a year later, she achieved her first great success, winning 1st place in the cantonal competition and a high position in the federal competition.

It was only then that I started working a little more seriously and I realized that math is what I enjoy doing and that these are the classes I look forward to.

The main “trigger” for her enrollment in the Second Gymnasium were the diplomas from the competitions that she won in the eighth and ninth grade, as well as the diploma denoting her the best student of her generation in her primary school. However, it is not easy to be the best. She hopes that, even though she is more than satisfied with this year’s 4th place at the school competition in mathematics, she will put in more work and effort in order to get an even better result next year.

Although I believe in myself when it comes to competitions in physics, chemistry and math, nervousness is always present, and as we were all very relaxed in terms of work during online classes, I was not sure if I had mastered the material covered and if some of the first places in school and cantonal competitions were waiting for me.

Ambition and self-criticism are certainly some of the many virtues that adorn the scholarship holders of the Hastor Foundation, and our task is to always offer them selfless support on their way to success. Therefore, we are extremely glad that Ena recognizes our efforts to support the scholarship holders with the motto “Education – the choice of winners”. Here’s what she had to say about the Hastor Foundation, and its scholarship holders:

The Hastor Foundation is a very important link in this chain. It follows all our successes, supports our ideas at volunteer meetings and, most importantly, it rewards our every effort. Through volunteer meetings and records of our grades, they have insight into our responsibility, diligence, discipline and creativity. Thanks to that, we are constantly advancing without even being aware of it.

I would like to say to the scholarship holders and those who are about to become ones that nothing can measure up to the joy after achieving a goal. Although it sometimes seems that way to us, schools and college are not just about waking up early in the morning and listening to subjects that are not interesting to us. Hidden in all this are the doors of many opportunities, it is up to us to use them and we better not even think about giving up after the first obstacle.

We have not doubt that numerous successes await Ena and we wish her good luck in future competitions.
