The owner of a large number of medals won at the most important world and European competitions, the BiH representative in karate, Hamza Turulja, made the name of our country heard far and wide. His combativeness is not only his profession, but also his way of life, which led him to make our country and himself richer for a number of medals and recognitions.
Every victory is important and valuable, but when you stand in front of your role model, a man from whom you learned and admired until yesterday, and bravely defeat him, that experience is more valuable than any gold:
I managed to defeat my role model. He is Rafael Aghayev, a karate player from Azerbaijan who is a five-time world champion and a ten-time European champion, and I learned my karate from that man. I attended the camps he led some ten years ago. And it was really a great honor just to stand opposite that man. I had a lot of self-confidence and certainty that I could win that match, which I did. It was one of the strongest competitions and it really wasn’t easy for him when he lost, especially to someone younger than him.
Hamza points out that the competitive spirit is extremely important for those who play sports. If the desire to win and the preparation is strong and self-confidence is not lacking, victory is inevitable. There are a lot of sacrifices, but what you get in return is priceless:
It was always important to me to be the best in something and to win. Growing up with an eight year older brother, it was my goal to beat him. Something always pulled me towards a higher step. At the end of my career, I want to remember all that I have achieved, so I use this time to achieve as many results as possible.
