Medicine, as one of the most humane activities, according to our guest, young doctor and scholarship holder of the Hastor Foundation, Amra Pušina, is closely related to volunteering. Just as we help those who need help through volunteering, so do medical workers lend a helping hand.

But being a doctor was not Amra’s desire from the very beginning. She shared with us her love for dentistry and the life story behind her desire, as well as the reason why she decided that medicine was her life’s calling:

In biology classes, we covered one chapter related to human anatomy. I remember when we studied systems and organs, I learned everything that could be learned. That was a challenge for me. Then I realized that I actually wanted to study the human organism in its entirety and that my choice would be medicine.

At the Hastor Foundation, Amra is particularly distinguished by the way she volunteers with students. Her volunteer hours are filled with learning and fun, which was recognized by Amra’s students and scholarship recipients of the Hastor Foundation:

I think dedication is the key to success. From the moment I became a scholarship holder of the Hastor Foundation and when I was assigned the role of mentor, I took this task very seriously and dedicated myself to it as much as possible. I try to make sure that my meetings are always full of purpose, that they are motivating, meaningful and interesting for the students. I try to set aside ten minutes at the end of the meeting to ask them how they liked the meeting, whether they would like us to talk about something else, etc. I develop a friendly relationship with students. I position myself as a friend to them.

In the end, we reveal what particularly impressed us from Amra’s story – if a person does something out of love, then he sees the reward in the work itself. Let’s try to enjoy the process, and not just wait for the arrival at the goal, just like Amra enjoyed studying for all six years and for that she received distinguished awards at the end.
